The Veil

1.
The Veil 03:32
Let down the veil So no black sky covers you Don’t be afraid Of the love that will come shining through Vacate the great Don’t hesitate All doubt will fall away Fall away Fall away Fall away Let down the veil All my life it’s been you
2.
Many A Man 03:51
Give me a thought, something to hold on to When it gets dark in the depths of my mind Bring me a sun I can turn and burn to Let down the veil, bring four to the light My love, my love knows no affection Oh, my love can be so unkind My love, my love knows no direction And many a man has fallen behind The song is a gale and sore is the storm I sing to the wind to keep it alive Rosemary blooms and my heart is ready For one is cold and dark as the night My love, my love knows no affection Oh, my love can be so unkind My love, my love knows no direction And many a man has fallen behind And many a man has fallen behind
3.
Honeydew 02:55
Morning fills the room with the light And honeydew is soft to the touch The changing moods of the sky Can make us fall in love And love can never be wrong With you
4.
A Long Time 03:58
It hurts to know you are living free without me While I’ve been a prisoner to my body All that I’ve learned didn’t prepare for this unknowing It’s getting hard being hurt and I think it’s showing Got to get out, get above, feel the sun lick I need a hand, need a glove, need a strong grip It’s been a long time without love It’s been a long time without love It’s been a long time without love It’s been a long time without love It’s been a long time without love It’s been a long time

about

Slow moving melodies and a uniquely nostalgic vocal style; the works of Ruby Pettit hold a mysterious space of their own in the alternative folk genre. Ruby has developed a stirring and evocative sound through intuitive experimentation involving a range of traditional and modern folk genres.

After a stint in Glasgow, the West Australian based musician became charmed by the Scottish Highlands, encouraging an exploration into folk music.

She recorded and self-released her debut EP When I Was a Dreamer (July 2021) and her debut album Still We Are Rising was recorded on reel-to-reel tape over two stormy days in July 2022 and championed on Perth’s RTRFM as a local feature album.

Igloo Records are proud to present The Veil - a collection of 4 songs from Ruby Pettit that sees further experimentation and expansion of the folk genre within the confines of her candlelit home studio. Droning chord organs and bowed double bass complete the sonic textures within, with a final polish undertaken in South London by Andy Ramsay (Stereolab, The Choral, The High Llamas).

Recently playing with Jack Davies, Turnstyle, Last Quokka and 6s & 7s as well as numerous songwriter showcases indicates the universal emotions Ruby communicates through her songs and thus establishing herself as an intriguing, emerging folk artist.
